What works & limitations

  • 4K resolution
  • HDR10
  • Dolby Vision
  • VRR
  • 120Hz
  • Xbox Series X outputs 4K at up to 120Hz via its HDMI 2.1 port, but achieving both simultaneously requires a monitor with an HDMI 2.1 input and VRR support. Monitors with only HDMI 2.0 inputs can still receive 4K at 60Hz or 1440p at 120Hz from the Series X as alternative configurations. Enabling VRR in the Xbox settings menu reduces screen tearing and input lag significantly on compatible displays. Dolby Vision gaming requires a monitor that supports Dolby Vision HDR in addition to HDMI 2.1.
