Does Nanit Pro work with 5GHz Only Router?

What works & limitations

• No functional use case exists for Nanit Pro on a 5GHz-only network — setup fails at the Wi-Fi credentials step after a 60-second connection timeout; the Nanit app displays "Camera connection failed — ensure you are connecting to a 2.4GHz network" error message
• Nanit Pro cannot see or connect to 5GHz SSIDs — the camera's Wi-Fi radio (2.4GHz 802.11b/g/n) has no 5GHz capability; this is a hardware limitation of the camera chipset, not a software restriction
• Nanit app setup wizard times out after 60 seconds waiting for the camera to confirm Wi-Fi association — the app displays the error "Unable to connect camera to network" and suggests checking the network name and password
• No workaround: the 2.4GHz limitation is in the Nanit Pro camera hardware; it cannot be resolved via firmware update, app update, or any configuration change on the camera side
• Wi-Fi 6E routers that have administratively disabled the 2.4GHz radio also fail with the same error — 5GHz-only is the common state for maximizing Wi-Fi 6E performance, but it is incompatible with virtually all IoT and baby monitor devices
• Resolution: log into your router admin panel and re-enable the 2.4GHz radio alongside the 5GHz radio — most routers support dual-band operation by default; if 5GHz-only was manually configured, re-enable 2.4GHz under Wireless Settings > 2.4GHz Radio > Enable
• Mesh router note (Eero Pro 6, Orbi RBK863S, Google Nest Wifi Pro): these systems use band steering with a single combined SSID — even when 2.4GHz is technically available, band steering may direct the Nanit to associate with the 5GHz band; during Nanit setup, disable band steering temporarily in the mesh router admin app, complete the Nanit pairing, then re-enable band steering; after initial setup the Nanit will consistently reassociate to 2.4GHz on restart
• Eero-specific setup tip: in the Eero app > Network > 5 GHz-only mode — if this setting is enabled, disable it before Nanit setup; Eero does not offer a separate 2.4GHz SSID by default, but disabling 5GHz-only mode restores band steering that allows the Nanit to negotiate 2.4GHz
