What works & limitations
- 4K at 30Hz without issues
- 4K at 60Hz at reduced color via 4:2:0 chroma subsampling
- 1080p or 1440p at higher refresh rates within bandwidth
- 4K at 120Hz at any color depth exceeds HDMI 2.0 bandwidth of 18Gbps
- 4K HDR at 120Hz is entirely out of scope for HDMI 2.0
- Upgrade to HDMI 2.1 cable and confirm your GPU port also supports HDMI 2.1
- Both the GPU output port and the monitor input port must be HDMI 2.1 for full bandwidth
- HDMI 2.0 is limited to 18Gbps; 4K120 at 8-bit color requires approximately 32Gbps
