What works & limitations
- "Hey Google, tell Roomba to start cleaning" — triggers a full-home cleaning session; the robot begins from wherever it is currently parked, not necessarily the Clean Base
- "Hey Google, tell Roomba to dock" or "go home" — sends the dock command; the j7+ finishes the current row pass before navigating back to the Clean Base
- "Hey Google, tell Roomba to pause" — pauses the current session in place; "resume" or "start" resumes from the paused position
- Roomba j7+ appears in the Google Home app device grid under the "Cleaning" category with a vacuum icon and a single Start/Stop control card
- Google Home routines integration: add "Start Roomba" as an action in any Google Home routine — e.g., triggered at 9:00am daily, or when a Nest Thermostat detects you've left home (Away mode) via a routine condition
- Status check via voice: "Hey Google, is Roomba cleaning?" returns the current state ("cleaning," "docked," "paused," or "error") from the iRobot cloud via the Google Home integration
- Room-specific cleaning via Google Home voice commands does not work — "Hey Google, tell Roomba to clean the kitchen" returns a "can't do that" response; Imprint Smart Map room names are not exposed to the Google Home integration API
- Smart schedules managed by iRobot's algorithm are not viewable or adjustable through the Google Home app — scheduling requires iRobot Home
- Clean Base bag status, fill level, and disposal scheduling are not accessible in Google Home — these are iRobot-proprietary features not included in the Google Home Actions API for iRobot
- Object avoidance settings and session-by-session cleaning history are accessible only in iRobot Home App
- Error notifications (stuck robot, full dustbin, missing Clean Base) do not appear in Google Home — push notifications for errors are iRobot Home App only
- Google Home integration setup: iRobot Home App > Settings > Smart Home > Google Assistant > "Link Account" redirects to a Google sign-in; after linking, the Roomba j7+ appears automatically in Google Home under Devices; the sync may take 5–10 minutes and a manual "Sync Devices" refresh in Google Home Settings
- After account linking, the Roomba j7+ appears in Google Home as a cleaning device with the label matching the robot's name set in iRobot Home (default: "Roomba") — rename the robot in iRobot Home before linking to give it a natural-language name Google recognizes accurately
- For households with a Google Nest Hub (1st or 2nd gen) or Nest Hub Max: the Roomba j7+ appears as a device tile on the Nest Hub dashboard; tap the tile to see current cleaning status and start/stop controls; the Nest Hub Max can show the j7+'s camera feed in Clean View if the iRobot and Google accounts are linked and the feature is enabled in iRobot Home's privacy settings
- If the Roomba disappears from Google Home after an iRobot app update or account re-authentication: go to Google Home Settings > Works with Google > iRobot > Unlink > re-link to resync the robot list; this resolves most disappearing-device issues without a factory reset of the robot
