How do I match panel wattage to inverter capacity?

A common and acceptable practice is to oversize the total panel wattage relative to the inverter's AC output rating by 10 to 25 percent — called DC oversizing or clipping. For example, pairing 500W of panels with a 400W inverter improves morning and afternoon production without damaging the inverter. Most installers aim for 110 to 125 percent of inverter AC capacity. Exceeding 150 percent risks inverter damage or warranty voiding. You must also verify that the panel array's open-circuit voltage (Voc) does not exceed the inverter's maximum input voltage, especially in cold weather when Voc rises.

Do all solar panels physically connect to all inverters?

Most solar panels use MC4 connectors as the standard physical connection, so they physically connect to any inverter that accepts MC4 inputs.
